Texas MUDs & water districts
3,092 districts in TCEQ's registry — 2,488 active, 604 inactive, every one listed. A Municipal Utility District is a unit of local government with its own board and, typically, its own line on the property tax bill; Texas law (Water Code §49.452) requires sellers inside one to notify buyers. This is the list of them — with the money attached: 1,230 districts carry their 2025 tax rate (M&O and debt-service split, from the Comptroller's statewide file) and 1,365 carry their bond debt — $39.6 billion in principal outstanding in FY2025, district by district, from the Bond Review Board.
